LipSense: Review + Thoughts

If you are at all on social media, I'm sure you've seen everyone and their mama talking about LipSense. I'll be honest, I was totally curious about all these girls posting LipSense selfies with their glossy gloss. I have serious FOMO and I wanted to know what all the hype was about! Thankfully, a previous co-worker of mine reached out and offered to send me a free LipSense of my choosing! My beauty addict self was super pumped to finally get my hands on one and to try it out for myself! After testing it out, I did purchase three more lipsticks on my own :)

Unlike many other lip products, LipSense is sold by individual distributors who market their products online and through social media. The LipSense distributor will usually post their updated inventory and you can select which colors you'd like. They're also great at helping you choose a shade that would look best with your skin tone!

What is LipSense?

LipSense claims to be extremely long-wearing, smudge-proof, and water-proof lipstick that you seal with a top coat (gloss). You are suppose to layer the product on your lips three times to get the best effect and then apply your favorite gloss on top. Throughout the day you then can reapply the gloss as many times as you'd like but you never have to reapply the lipstick. The main ingredient in LipSense is alcohol. This is suppose to help exfoliate your lips as you wear it more often. I believe LipSense has over 70 shades and a few different glosses to choose from. It is also cruelty-free and vegan!

In order from left to right: Beige Champagne, Praline Rose, Aussie Rose, and Strawberry Shortcake. In case you're wondering- Aussie Rose is my all time fave!

PROS:

  • Very long-lasting: The claims are true about it's longevity. As a nurse, I work long shifts and I've tested this product out for over 12 hours. I do notice after about hour 10, it can get a little flakey and the color can be missing in some spots. But overall, I'd still say its an extremely long-wearing product.

  • Cost-effective: Although each lipstick/gloss will cost you about $25.00 each, you end up saving in the long run! Since you only have to reapply the gloss throughout the day, one tube of the lipstick should last you a very long time.

  • Variety: There are a ton of different shades to choose from. They have everything from nudes to hot pinks, to bright reds! They also have different gloss options, with their glossy gloss being the most popular. You can totally change up the look of your lipstick depending on which gloss you choose. And they have a matte version if that's more your style.

CONS:

  • Smell: With alcohol being the first ingredient, it does smell like straight Vodka. And I am most certainly not a Vodka kinda girl. I will say that once the gloss is applied, the scent goes away. But it is something to note about the product.

  • Application: This might just be because I'm a newbie at this but I do think the application can be difficult. Since you are suppose to layer this product on and only apply in one direction, I find that it can be challenging. The process also requires a mirror for sure and definitely not something you can just do on the go.

  • Long-wearing: Ok, I know I said this is a pro and it totally is. BUT- it is so long-wearing and smudge-proof that once it's on, it's like freaking cement people. And I definitely feel like the oops remover doesn't work as well as I'd like it too. I've actually found that using a Neutrogena cleansing bar works so much better at getting this product of your lips.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I think that LipSense is a win! It lives up to its long-wearing and smudge-proof claims. I love that I can apply it in the morning and not have to worry about how my lipstick looks throughout the day. It costs about the same as any high end liquid lipstick on the market and you truly only have to use a minimal amount of product. I think it's an innovative new product that's fun to try and I like that you are supporting your friend, family, coworker, or fellow makeup lover!

I hope you all enjoyed my thoughts on LipSense! If you love a good lipstick and want to give this a try all you have to do is click on LipSense !

As always, thanks for reading and feel free to let me know if you've tried it and if you have a favorite shade!
